Series of three one-day events happening across the North of England

A Mayfly Lives and Dies in a Day
For their first collaborative project, Close Mitchell Taylor present Mayflies, a series of three one-day art events happening across the North of England in which each of the exhibiting artists embraces this sense of temporariness. Through live presentations and a screening of artist’s film and video, Mayflies offers the fleeting chance to experience these works collectively.

Sometimes the best art experiences are also the most fleeting. Seeing work at festivals and biennials can generate an intensity and openness of conversation due, in part, to a limited timeframe – a contrast to the often solitary experience of stepping into a 6-week exhibition.
Each event features a live presentation by a different artist whose work embraces this sense of temporariness:
- Guy Sherwin in Sheffield : Sat 28 Jul 2007, Site Gallery
- BBB Johannes Deimling in Manchester, with an accompanying John Bock video: Sat 1 Sep 2007, Cornerhouse
- Howard Matthew in Newcastle : Sat 8 Sep 2007, Star and Shadow Cinema

The live presentations are accompanied by the Mayflies screening programme which includes works by George Barber, Deborah Bower, Wojciech Bruszewski, Michelle Handelman and Ben Rivers.

An installation of Guy Sherwin’s films Views From Home and Cycle will be shown as a prelude to the event in Sheffield.
