Spike Island Artist Residency - open to all UK based artists.

Spike Island has funds from Arts Council England South West on an annual basis to offer a production residency to a UK based artist. This is a unique opportunity for an artist to spend three months developing their practice in Spike Island’s supportive environment. The period of the residency is 3 months and takes place spring 2008 (negotiation of dates is possible). The residency includes a fee of £3,000 and use of a large studio with natural light and 24 hour access. A further sum of £2,500 is available to cover production costs and accommodation will be provided. The chosen artist will work towards a major solo exhibition at Spike Island summer 2008.

This prestigious residency has been running at Spike Island over a number of years with artists that include Alex Frost, James Ireland and Ruth Claxton (2007 recipient) making new work specifically for the gallery programme. It remains one of the key annual awards that we have to offer an artist based in the UK. Artists in full or part-time education are not eligible to apply. Deadline for application: Fri 22 Jun 2007. For full criteria and application form please e-mail: admin@spikeisland.org.uk.
