Call for participants
Feel marginalised by the art world? Isolated and alone? Speak up at the Art Strike at Art '07. Art Strike will give a voice to artists during an innovative and enjoyable intervention at Art '07 in Kendal. Artists from across the UK (and beyond) are invited to this placard-waving gathering. There are badges for everyone who takes part, and a lucky few may get to wear the t-shirt.
Art Strike provides an opportunity for individual artists to discuss and relate their experiences with lead artist Graham Martin. What would happen if artists stopped producing work? What would happen if artists really went on strike? Striking artists will also be encouraging visitors to write their own protest slogans on the scrap cardboard provided.
Art '07 is Arts Council England's annual celebration of the arts in the Northwest. The timetable for Art '07 includes work from Lanternhouse as well as Art Strike! and a networking opportunity in Exchange '07. During the afternoon is a debate that will be recorded for broadcast on Radio 3. All in all, it should be fun and useful.
The battle bus will depart from Carlisle at 8am and pick-up supporters along the way via Penrith, Keswick, Ambleside and Windermere. You can book a place by emailing email@example.com. Bus travellers will also receive free passes for the Radio3 debate. Art '07 starts at 10.30am and runs into the evening. The bus will be returning home after the debate at 5pm. There is an evening event, which costs £10 (available via the Brewery Arts Centre) but you'll have to make your own way home. If you are going to Kendal under your own steam and would like to take part, please contact Bryan on the same email address in order to confirm numbers.
If you can’t make it to the Art Strike in person, you can show your solidarity by sending a video message, text message or postcards to be shown throughout the day. (see video, right)
-Postcards of slogans and support can be sent to Bryan c/o foldgallery, Walton’s Yard, Kirkby Stephen, CA17 4QT
