Showing: Expectations
A collaborative visual arts project in Leeds as part of East Street Arts’ Public Programme

Showing: Expectations is an exhibition that will grow and change over a seven-week period, involving six Leeds-based community groups; St. Anne’s Resource Centre & Open Learning, St. George’s Crypt, Travellers in Leeds, Emmaus, Workers’ Educational Association for Yorkshire & Humber, and South Leeds Health for All. The groups will show a variety of artwork of their own making and selection in collaboration with East Street Arts (ESA) and independent artists/educators Leonor da Silva, Ignaz Cassar & Sue Wilks.

This challenging project will bring together differing individuals and groups to explore their own and other people’s expectations in relation to the visual arts, enabling lively debate to occur around issues of access to education and the current status of art. The process will raise questions around ‘what constitutes the art object’, ‘what is the art institution’ and ‘can everyone be an artist’?  For information and updates on the programme of events visit the East Street Arts website. A programme of events hosted by East Street Arts, Artists and Collaborators

Social Club offers a chance to indulge the senses and engage the mind through a series of events and happenings developed collectively between artists and audiences. From private engagements to large-scale public gatherings, a range of activities thrives on shared experiences in order to foster conversation, critique, and celebration. With a loosely stated aim to create a climate for burgeoning situations and possibilities for exchange, ESA's Social Club opens its doors to artists, spectators and participants. Events will include games, films, variety nights and plenty of ‘turns’ to interest audiences of all kinds. more...
